Voicemails for Isabelle is an American romantic comedy-drama written and directed by Leah McKendrick and released on Netflix on June 19, 2026. The film stars Zoey Deutch and Nick Robinson, alongside Nick Offerman, Lukas Gage, Harry Shum Jr., and Ciara Bravo. Set between San Francisco and Austin, the story follows Jill, a young woman grieving the loss of her sister Isabelle. To cope with her grief, she continues leaving voice messages on her late sister’s old phone number, unaware that it has been reassigned to a stranger named Wes, who gradually becomes drawn to the deeply personal messages.
After her sister’s death, Jill keeps calling Isabelle’s old number and leaves voicemails about her chaotic life, relationships, and struggles with grief. Unknown to her, the number now belongs to Austin real estate agent Wes. As he listens to the messages, he becomes emotionally invested in the woman behind the voice. Their unexpected connection develops through confessions, memories, and shared loneliness, leading to a romance built on chance and healing.
The film is written and directed by Leah McKendrick and produced by Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Steve Tisch, and Becky Sanderman. The project was originally announced in 2019 with a different creative team before being redeveloped by Netflix. Principal photography began in Vancouver, Canada, in July 2025. McKendrick has described the film as a story about both romantic love and sisterhood, drawing inspiration from her own relationship with her sister. The score was composed by Este Haim and Amanda Yamate, with cinematography by Julia Swain and editing by Ryan C. Fill and Lee Haxall.
Voicemails for Isabelle premiered globally on June 19, 2026, as a Netflix Original. The film is available to stream exclusively on Netflix in supported regions and did not receive a wide theatrical release.
