Sakamoto Days (2026) is an upcoming Japanese live-action action-comedy film adaptation of the hugely popular Weekly Shonen Jump manga SAKAMOTO DAYS by Yuto Suzuki. Based on the action-packed and quirky story that also inspired a global anime hit on Netflix, the live-action movie is directed by Yuichi Fukuda (known for Gintama live-action films) and scheduled to premiere in Japan on April 29, 2026, during the Golden Week holiday period.
Once feared as a legendary hitman whose name struck terror into the underworld, Taro Sakamoto has traded in his violent past to run a cozy convenience store with his loving wife and daughter. Life seems peaceful even a little plump until remnants of his past refuse to stay buried. Old enemies, rival assassins, and unexpected threats resurface, forcing Sakamoto to fight not with guns and blades, but with ingenuity and everyday objects from his shop.
Portrayed by Ren Meguro, Sakamoto’s dual nature the retired family man and the still-deadly force from his assassin days drives a mix of high-octane action, clever humour, and heartfelt moments. Alongside him are key allies and foes, including Fumiya Takahashi as Shin Asakura and Aya Ueto as his wife Aoi Sakamoto, helping balance the film’s blend of comedy and thrilling fight sequences.
