Seven years after the previous installment, the Danur franchise returns for what is billed as its final chapter. This time, Risa Saraswati has tried to leave the supernatural world behind. She no longer communicates with the ghost friends who have been part of her life since childhood and is focused on living a normal life. That peace is shattered when her younger sister Riri becomes engaged inside an old theater and begins behaving in increasingly disturbing ways as the wedding approaches.
At the same time, Risa experiences a series of terrifying visions that make her feel as if she is dying over and over again. The signs point toward a mystery connected to Peter and the spirits she thought she had left behind forever.
For many fans, the Danur series has always belonged to Prilly Latuconsina, and The Last Chapter places her firmly at the center of the story once again. This version of Risa feels older and more emotionally exhausted than in previous films. Instead of discovering the supernatural for the first time, she is confronting the consequences of a connection she can never fully escape.
Zee Asadel joins the cast as Riri, whose strange transformation drives much of the plot. Dito Darmawan and Lewis Robert round out the main ensemble, while the relationship between Risa and her ghost companions remains the emotional foundation of the film.
Director Awi Suryadi approaches the finale with a noticeably larger scope than the earlier entries. The production reportedly took months to complete and became the first film in the franchise released in IMAX format. Rather than relying solely on jump scares, the film focuses on dread, recurring visions, and the emotional weight of ending a story that has been unfolding for a decade.
The old theater setting becomes one of the film’s strongest visual elements, creating a haunting backdrop for the final confrontation between Risa and the forces that continue to surround her.
Danur: The Last Chapter opened in Indonesian theaters on March 18, 2026, with screenings expanding internationally in selected markets the following day. At the time of writing, the film’s official streaming release has not been announced. Viewers outside Indonesia should follow updates from MD Pictures regarding future digital and streaming availability.
