Synopsis

Nando Between Two Worlds – A Sintonia Film is already released, arriving on Netflix on August 12, 2026. More importantly, it functions as the closing chapter for one of Sintonia‘s most complicated characters. Five seasons of the Brazilian crime drama left Nando caught between ambition, violence and the people he claimed to protect; this film finally forces him to confront what those choices have cost his family.

Directed by Johnny Araújo, the 109-minute Brazilian Portuguese drama does not try to reinvent Sintonia. Its strength comes from narrowing the story around Nando’s personal crisis. Christian Malheiros plays him as a man worn down by years of criminal life rather than the energetic young figure audiences first met. That change gives the film its strongest emotional layer.

The weakness is that the film sometimes leans on familiar crime-thriller mechanics. Some critics have found the story uneven and overly dependent on conventions, while others have praised its emotional focus and Malheiros’ central performance.

Storyline

Five years after rising to power in the criminal underworld, Nando is living in Serbia, separated from the family he once believed he was protecting. His carefully maintained distance collapses when his teenage daughter, Bruninha, disappears, forcing him back to Brazil.

The return is more than a rescue mission. Nando discovers that his old life has not stayed behind. A betrayal inside the criminal organization, pressure from former associates and the danger surrounding his family pull him back toward the world he has spent years trying to escape.

That creates the film’s central conflict: can Nando genuinely choose his family without dragging the violence of his past back into their lives?

The story works best when it stops treating Nando as simply a crime boss and examines him as a father who has missed too much of his children’s lives. His relationship with Scheyla and Bruninha carries more emotional weight than the criminal operation itself. The film ultimately turns his final decision into a question of accountability rather than survival alone.

Cast & Performances

  • Christian Malheiros as Nando — Malheiros remains the film’s anchor. His performance is quieter and more physically exhausted than Nando’s earlier appearances, reflecting a man who is beginning to understand the cost of his choices.
  • Duda Pimenta as Bruninha — Bruninha gives the story its generational conflict. Her relationship with an absent father makes Nando’s return emotionally complicated rather than automatically welcome.
  • Júlia Yamaguchi as Scheyla — Scheyla is central to the family drama and provides a grounded counterpoint to Nando’s belief that distance equals protection.
  • Jottapê as Doni and Bruna Mascarenhas as Rita — Their appearances reconnect the film with the original trio and give longtime Sintonia viewers the sense that this really is part of the same story rather than an unrelated spin-off.
  • Henrique Santana as Moicano — The new character adds another element to Nando’s increasingly dangerous circumstances.

Malheiros carries the biggest burden, and that is appropriate. This is ultimately Nando’s story, and the film is most convincing when it stays close to his exhaustion, guilt and uncertainty.

Box Office / Expectations

Because Nando Between Two Worlds was released directly as a Netflix streaming film, there is no conventional worldwide box-office collection to report. Netflix has not publicly disclosed a theatrical-style budget or a comparable box-office figure for the movie, so assigning an estimated collection would be misleading.

Its commercial value is better judged through the built-in audience of Sintonia. Netflix positioned the movie as the conclusion to Nando’s story, giving the film an immediate reason to exist beyond simply extending the franchise.

The early audience response is mixed. IMDb currently lists the film at around 4.4/10, while Rotten Tomatoes has audience activity but no established Tomatometer score from professional critics at the time of checking. Reviews have generally agreed that the cast—particularly Malheiros—is one of the film’s stronger elements, while the plotting can feel familiar or uneven.

For Sintonia followers, though, the commercial question is less important than the payoff. Nando Between Two Worlds exists to finish a character arc that began years ago. It succeeds most when it asks Nando to stop confusing power with protection—and finally decide what kind of father he wants to be.
