The peaceful coastal village of Hope Harbor, located near the heavily guarded DMZ, is thrown into confusion after reports of a dangerous tiger roaming the area. Local police chief Bum-seok begins investigating what appears to be a routine emergency, but the situation quickly takes an unexpected turn.
As unexplained incidents continue to unfold, the townspeople realize they are facing something far more frightening than a wild animal. With fear spreading throughout the community, a police officer, local residents, and a group of hunters must work together to uncover the truth behind the mysterious threat. Their search leads them into a battle against an unknown force that challenges everything they thought they understood about the world.
Hope marks Na Hong-jin’s return to feature filmmaking after nearly a decade. Produced by Forged Films and distributed by Plus M Entertainment, the project is among the most ambitious Korean productions in recent years, featuring a large-scale international cast and extensive visual effects. The film had its world premiere in the main competition at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, becoming the first South Korean film since Decision to Leave (2022) to compete for the Palme d’Or.
Hope premiered at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival on May 17, 2026, ahead of its summer 2026 theatrical release in South Korea. Neon will distribute the film in North America and other English-speaking territories, while Mubi has acquired rights for several international markets. Regional streaming availability is expected to be announced after its theatrical run.
