Young Washington is a 2026 historical war drama directed by Jon Erwin, who co-wrote the screenplay with Tom Provost and Diederik Hoogstraten. The film stars William Franklyn-Miller as a young George Washington, alongside Ben Kingsley, Andy Serkis, Mary-Louise Parker, Kelsey Grammer, and Joel Smallbone. Instead of focusing on Washington’s presidency, the story explores his early military career during the French and Indian War and the experiences that shaped him into one of America’s most influential leaders.
Before becoming the first President of the United States, George Washington was an ambitious young officer eager to prove himself on the frontier. A single mistake places him at the center of an international conflict, forcing him to face the harsh realities of war and leadership.
As battles intensify and alliances begin to collapse, Washington must earn the trust of his fellow soldiers while making difficult decisions that will define his future. Through courage, sacrifice, and hard-earned experience, he begins the journey from an inexperienced commander to the leader history would remember.
Young Washington is directed and produced by Jon Erwin. The film is produced by Wonder Project in association with 10 Ton Productions and 2521 Entertainment. Principal photography took place in Ireland and Virginia, with Kristopher Kimlin serving as cinematographer and Parker Adams and David de Vos handling the editing.
The film recreates the events of the French and Indian War through large-scale battle sequences and historical settings while focusing on Washington’s personal growth, leadership, and the challenges he faced long before the American Revolution.
Young Washington premiered at the Tribeca Festival on June 13, 2026, before its nationwide theatrical release in the United States on July 3, 2026 through Angel Studios.
