Kuyank (2026) is an Indonesian supernatural horror film inspired by the terrifying folklore creature known as the Palasik or Kuyank, a mystical entity believed in parts of Southeast Asia. Directed by Yongki Ongestu, the movie blends regional mythology with modern horror storytelling, focusing on curses, dark rituals, and the fear surrounding ancient supernatural legends. The film combines suspense, disturbing imagery, and traditional beliefs to create a chilling narrative rooted in Indonesian culture.
The story follows Bimo and Sriatun, a young couple who move to a quiet rural village in search of a peaceful life. Their happiness grows when Sriatun becomes pregnant, but their joy soon turns into fear when strange and disturbing events begin happening around them.
Residents of the village whisper about a terrifying supernatural creature known as Kuyank—a flying head with its internal organs hanging beneath it, believed to be the result of forbidden black magic practiced by those seeking eternal youth and power. According to legend, the creature hunts pregnant women and newborn babies to sustain its dark existence.
As Sriatun’s pregnancy progresses, the strange occurrences become increasingly frightening. She begins experiencing nightmares, unexplained illnesses, and sightings of a terrifying presence lurking outside their home at night. The couple eventually realizes that the ancient creature has targeted their unborn child.
Desperate to protect his family, Bimo seeks help from local spiritual healers and elders who understand the dark legend. Together they uncover a hidden history of black magic in the village, revealing that someone nearby may be secretly practicing forbidden rituals and controlling the Kuyank.
