Mortal Kombat II (2026) is an American English-language action fantasy martial arts film and the highly anticipated sequel to the 2021 Mortal Kombat reboot. Directed by Simon McQuoid and based on the iconic Mortal Kombat video game franchise created by Ed Boon and John Tobias, the movie continues the saga of brutal tournaments, fierce warriors, and world-shaking stakes.
Released by Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema, Mortal Kombat II is part of the long-running Mortal Kombat cinematic universe and is scheduled for a May 2026 theatrical release.
Following the events of the 2021 Mortal Kombat film, Earthrealm’s defenders face a new and even more dangerous threat: the tyrannical rise of Shao Kahn, emperor of Outworld, whose domination could spell doom for all realms. To resist this invasion, Earthrealm’s champions including Liu Kang, Sonya Blade, Jax, and others must once again enter the legendary tournament known as Mortal Kombat.
This time, the stakes are higher than ever as the tournament becomes a battleground not just for individual victory but for the survival of worlds. Adding to the roster, Johnny Cage (portrayed by Karl Urban) a washed-up action star-turned-fighter is reluctantly drawn into the conflict, bringing his signature humour, bravado, and martial aptitude to the fight for Earthrealm.
The sequel also expands the roster with new and returning characters such as Kitana (Adeline Rudolph), Jade (Tati Gabrielle), Baraka (CJ Bloomfield), and the fearsome Shao Kahn (Martyn Ford), while familiar fighters like Scorpion (Hiroyuki Sanada) and Kung Lao (Max Huang) return to battle alongside their comrades.
