Blades of the Guardians (2026) is a Chinese Mandarin-language epic martial arts action film directed by legendary martial arts filmmaker Yuen Woo-ping and produced by Wu Jing and others. Based on the popular manhua (Chinese comic) Biao Ren by Xu Xianzhe, this wuxia blockbuster brings together multiple generations of action stars in a large-scale historical adventure. The film is scheduled to release in mainland China on February 17, 2026, during the Chinese New Year holiday.
Set during the turbulent era of the Sui Dynasty, Blades of the Guardians follows Dao Ma (played by Wu Jing), a hardened warrior known as the “second most-wanted fugitive.” When his benefactor entrusts him with the perilous task of escorting Zhi Shilang, the “most-wanted fugitive,” to the imperial capital of Chang’an, the mission quickly spirals far beyond a simple escort job.
As the unlikely group traverses vast deserts and hostile terrain, they confront relentless enemies, political intrigue, and their own inner conflicts. Alongside Dao Ma are fierce allies and fearsome foes including Di Ting (Nicholas Tse), the enigmatic Shu (Yu Shi), and other characters embodied by an all-star cast featuring Jet Li, Tony Leung Ka-fai, Kara Wai, and more.
