Ramayana: Part 1 is an upcoming Indian epic mythological action-drama film directed by Nitesh Tiwari. Based on the ancient Hindu epic Ramayana written by sage Valmiki, the movie is being developed as a massive two-part cinematic adaptation with global-scale production values.
The story follows Prince Rama of Ayodhya, who is forced into exile alongside his wife Sita and brother Lakshman. Their peaceful journey turns into a battle between good and evil after the powerful king Ravana abducts Sita and takes her to Lanka. Rama then embarks on a dangerous mission filled with loyalty, sacrifice, war, and destiny as he prepares to confront Ravana and restore dharma. The film is expected to explore both the emotional and philosophical layers of the legendary epic while presenting Ravana as a more layered and complex character.
The film stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, and Yash as Ravana. The ensemble cast also includes Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman. The movie’s music is being composed by legendary musicians A. R. Rahman and Hans Zimmer, marking Zimmer’s first major Indian film collaboration.
The production of the film has gained huge attention because of its reported massive budget, advanced VFX work by DNEG, and IMAX-scale cinematic approach. Recent reports suggest that large portions of Ravana’s sequences and the famous Sita Swayamvar scenes are currently being filmed on grand sets in Mumbai.
The first part of Ramayana: Part 1 is scheduled to release during Diwali 2026, while the second part is expected in 2027.
